"The Moola Mantra is perhaps their finest album yet, gracefully weaving Deva's transcendently pure voice, sitar, bansuri flute, dotar, tabla, piano, string quartet and ambient electronica into a richly layered tapestry of sacred chants that honor all traditions, religions, creeds and spiritual paths. Joined by superb musicians including Jai Uttal, Benjy Wertheimer, Manos and Kit Walker, Deva and Miten transport the listener into a world of blissful grace. For nearly 20 years they have traveled all over the world, offering themselves as living examples of male/female energy balance, sharing their music as a sacred tool for healing and intimacy.
"....Even after repeated listenings, I find that The Moola Mantra feeds my soul in ways that only my heart understands, and receives my highest recommendation."

"It is often stated that of all the paths of yoga--including jnana (knowledge), asana (postures), laya (absorption through meditation) & karma (selfless service)--that the quickest and most effective route is bhatki, the yoga of devotion. And the practice of the bhakti yogi is mantra, chanting. When the singer expresses his or her inner feelings through song, the lyrics are believed to recycle and filter back into the yogi.
"Vocalist Deva Premal and longtime partner/musician Miten have been practicing this art together for more than two decades, selling over a half-million albums to a community enamored with her penetrating style and his tasteful accompaniment.
"The Moola Mantra, considered a root chant in India--it is a foundational offering that carries much karmic weight (or, in a yogic viewpoint, weightlessness)--comprises the latest outing by this duo. The five parts represent one "song," as chanting and other devotional arts are not so concerned about length of performance as much as integrity and feeling. And this disc has plenty of both.
"Joined by a roster of outstanding musicians, including kirtanist Jai Uttal and mutli-instrumentalist Benjy Wertheimer, Premal's heartfelt performance is the pole by which the bansuri, dotar, piano and tablas dance. It is a quiet and engaging experience meant to invoke reflection in the listener. The entirety of the mantra lasts just four lines, yet the manner by which this cast weaves the instrumentation and the ebbs in her lyrical flow never wavers.
"In the art of mantra recitation, repetition is key. The longer one can sustain the idea--and in this particular chant, it is finding truth and bliss through the liberation of the individual--the more effective it becomes. While this seems counterintuitive to the normal short-format of songs with hooks and verses, the devotional music explored here is meant for connection to an inspired source. Premal and Miten are masters in this craft; and through their dialing up and tuning in, take us along for the ride."

"It seems the latest trend in chanting CDs is to use only one mantra for the whole CD with different tracks further exploring and developing the mantra. For Deva Premal this has resulted in an exquisite recording and a great music soundtrack for yoga, meditation and healing.
"The mantra used is long enough to give the recording depth and interest while short enough to make it attainable to chant along with. Renowned producer and musician Ben Leinbach’s influence is clearly stated through the arrangement of long beautiful gaps of instrumental solos and variations in the singing of the mantra. Deva and her partner Miten handle all of the vocals and are accompanied by several famous kirtan/world music musicians including Jai Uttal on the dotar, Manose on the Bansuri flute, and Benjy Wertheimer on the esraj."

"I've been listening to music, all kinds, especially classical, for seven decades. Then I heard the Moola Mantra on satellite radio. It is the most perfect piece of music that has ever graced my ears. I listen to it every day. Thank you for creating it.
"I hope someday you will release a DVD of you performing all 50-plus minutes of the beautiful Moola Mantra."

"Not only does the magic of your new CD jazz up my Sadhana - chanting practice individually and bring back into my spirit muscle memory our lovely full moon Samasati experience of this chant all dressed in white. But it as well jazzes up my group practice in the meditation/chanting groups that I lead at work. I introduced the new CD into this week’s groups and as I knew would happen, all the people loved the chant and are awaiting the CD release in the States.
"Very lovely indeed. I hope all is well with you both on your world tour as you continue to send into the Universe your magic ripples of light through your music and lovely spirits. "

Danke!"

"I really love your music, specially the heart expanding quality of it. For that reason I always use it when I give crystal therapies. Thank you.
"Since I attended your wonderful concert in Oslo (May 2006), I have been humming on a mantra (on and off) from your concert that I could not identify from any of your CDs. I remembered the whole melody, but only smatterings of words plus 'Hari Om Tat Sat'. I have been contemplating to get in touch with you to identify the song, but I have never got around to it.
"Yesterday I received your newsletter, and followed the link to the Prabhu Music website to check out your new CD. When I listened to the mp3-file and understood that the Moola Mantra CD actually is my 'unidentified mantra', I was almost ecstatic and of course ordered it at once! I also had to laugh when I saw that it lasts all of 42 minutes. When one waits for something good, one does not wait in vain.
"Thank you for shining a beacon on the world through your music."

"Last week I had anatomy exam for my Zen Shiatsu school. A deep process in which my old patterns came up: the fear to fail and that my brain is not clever enough. I tried to change my perspective: not performing for the teacher but doing it merely for myself and no matter what it was okay. Every time I studied, your new CD The Moola Mantra was guiding me and creating a huge space in which I could relax. The result?? A 7.7 for theory and a 8.5 for practice. Thank you for all the inspiration and healing your music brings me. Words are not enough..... "
