Singing the blues in San Francisco and beyond
hi dear friends – we just celebrated deva’s 40th in santa fe new mexico.
the people were so sweet – the whole theater sang happy birthday to her when we began the concert....but more on that soon...we have a video of it which i will post soon.
meanwhile, some pix from san francisco concert. the warfield theater is a monument in terms of rock music. everyone from the grateful dead to david bowie has graced the stage...and to think we were bringing kirtan and mantras to such an auspicious venue blew me away.
i used to play at venues like this when i was much younger, but always as an opening act - never dreaming that one day - in my 60’s! - i’d be returning as a ‘headliner' - to sing mantras. life sure is mysterious.
deva, of course, glides through it all in the most surreal and gracious way!
so, here we go. here’s the outside of the theatre, with strip club next door...
that’s jerry garcia looking down on us

..and david bowie looking up...!

two old timers slug it out!
this is greg douglass from the steve miller band.
steve drove up from his home in san diego to play with us.
he always loves playing the warfield!

it was our best concert – for me anyway – the sound, the playing, the choice of material (it always changes!), and so many friends in the audience.

kit walker joined us for you gotta move

the maestro – greg douglass

after the concert, we got to reconnect with so many good friends

and then on, in convoy, to arizona – nadaraj does a little home maintenance

and crashes out..
paul and parmita take care of business (what did we do before computers?)

and i enjoy the luxury of watching my favourite soccer team play live, on the bus...

‘restroom break’ as they say in america

and before we know it, another town, another concert – this is mesa, arizona

sunrise and we hit the road for tucson

manose making friends outside the venue in tucson

another hardcore rock venue – megadeath were there the night before us – interesting contrast

in the dressing room, we were visited by many deeksha oneness givers – very sweet to receive their love before the concert

the people of tucson pulled us through!
i have good memories of the concert, because we made a decision to play a completely new set.
we almost made it, but couldn’t resist the requests for the gayatri

deva and krishna das have been ending the evenings with mere gurudev

i love to see how everyone can morph from celebration to meditation so fast

thank you tucson!
that brings us almost up to date – next stop, the high desert town of santa fe, new mexico

... and deva’s birthday celebration!
